In ancient times it was called "Castrum Fornoli" today it is the most populous village of the municipality of Amelia. Its name is derived from the "ovens and furnaces" for baking pottery and building materials found since ancient times. The ancient city walls with towers and gates still exists but has been partly incorporated in new construction. A must visit is the wooded park of St. Silvestro where sports facilities and equipment with an adjoining dance floor were built. On top of the mountain there is the Romanesque church of the same name, with a fresco depicting St. Silvestro. Fornole lies at a height of 340 m above sea level and is about 5 km from Amelia. The patron saint of the village is St. Joseph, whose feast is celebrated at the end of May.
